Modernizing the VG30DETT, Strengthening the Block With Engineered Performance

Not only are the EPR caps made of a stronger material but the two center mains are held down with 4 bolts instead of two for twice the clamping load and more register area.  The block has to be re-machined to accommodate this but it is well worth it.

The tops of the EPR main caps are machined flat so the included girdle can be installed on top of them.

The girdle is machined from 4130 chrome molly and is not as thick as the stock cast iron piece.  We have a feeling that it might be stronger in tensile strength but not as stiff as the stock iron part.  The EPR caps are so much stronger that this is not an issue.

  1. http://epracing.net/ too; actually came across them from watching some GTP oriented groups, seems like they’re working on doing a lot of stuff to keep the old cars running, which is awesome.

It’s funny to think of iron blocks as reaching their limits after all the stereotypes of the 2JZ and stuff but it’s not new; Electramotive actually had redesigned aluminum blocks cast to fix reliability issues back in the day.

  2. Great to see more articles related to the Z32 platform. Keep it up! Also, it would be even better to create a series of videos on the YouTube channel. Been loving the content!

    1. The EP Racing one was more affordable for me and my power goals are in the 3-digit range so I decided good enough. If I was going to G30 turbos instead of G25 I would have bought the BDE girdle for sure.
