The Corolla’s engine compartment is to die for! JDM goodness. |
The BEAMS engine displaces 2000cc’s with a bore and stroke of 86mm just like a Nissan SR20DE. The engine has a high 11.5:1 compression ratio and has titanium valves in addition to the VVTi mechanism. In stock trim the engine is rated at about 210 hp.

The custom motor mounts and a view of the Burns merged collector and sprung slip fit flanges. |
Not content to leave the engine stock, it was fitted with an Afterhours Automotive fabricated intake manifold using Jenvey 52mm ITB’s with the fuel pressure being controlled by an AEM fuel pressure regulator. The burnt exhaust is extracted through a custom 4-1 header fabricated from stainless with a merged collector by Brian Kono of Afterhours Automotive. Engine management is handled by an AEM 60-1050 ECU with the mil spec wiring done by GP Motorsports. All plumbing uses XRP hose and fittings.

Huge Jenvey 52mm ITB’s feed the BEAMS 2 liter. |

An AEM fuel pressure regulator feeds the ITB’s through braided steel -6 hose and AN XRP fittings. |
These relatively simple mods give the 3SGE a 40 horsephpwer boost to 250 hp at 8000 rpm, more than double the ouput of the old 4AG with a lot less stress.
