MPTCC at K1 Speed in Torrance
Yeah, we know. “How can we joke about NASCAR yet still cancel an event because of rain?” you ask. Well, that’s mostly because none of the racers own rain tires considering our series competes in Southern California. For something you may use once every five to a million years, rain tires aren’t exactly a great investment for the grassroots racer in SoCal. It also doesn’t mean we still can’t have a bit of fun utilizing a racetrack that’s never affected by the weather either though.
No rain tires? No problem! K1 Speed in Torrance is just a few miles away from the MPTCC Office in Gardena!
Before each race, there was a driver's meeting that was mandatory by K1 Speed. Not too far off what we do for our big series!Way before the rains came, but when the forecast had made them a guaranteed possibility, our drivers had asked to cancel or move the date for race 1 and 2. However, one driver suggested something different and it was an idea too good to pass up! We went to K1 Speed in Torrance, California and scheduled a private race on Saturday afternoon. The more local drivers made their way down and we also opened it up to fans or friends of the MPTCC.
K1 Speed allows you to bring your own helmet, so that meant that drivers brought out their own helmet cams!
Edo Stepanyan, Steve Rockwood, Martin Gonzales, and Nick Betz represented the MPTCC while Khiem Dinh, Harut Stepanyan, Robert Grattan, and John Brizuela came along representing the friends and fans. The karts were paired fairly and by race time all of the drivers were within 1.1 seconds lap time from first to last. That is an impressive feat to say the least. Mike Kojima, though, was not able to compete because he came after registration was done. He was busy working on MotoIQ Long Beach aka the MegaShop.
