MPTCC at K1 Speed in Torrance

Starting order for the race was based solely on who came in first, so Khiem Dinh would lead the way initially with Nick Betz behind him. Then it was Robert, Steve, Harut, John, Edo and Martin rounding out the field. This race would be a standing start and off the bat, Khien had the advantage. Harut quickly made up some positions at the drop of the green as well. Within two laps, Harut passed Nick and was on the hunt for Khiem.

Yes, Rockwood takes his starts seriously no matter what he's in. Here, we see him checking rear tire temperatures with a very sophisticated device: his bare hand.

Very early on, Khiem and Nick kept their distance between third place and were starting to stretch their legs a bit…

But Harut was catching them quickly after jumping up to third place on lap one.

With the top three putting distance between themselves and the rest of the field, the battles would be mostly at the back of the pack. John Brizuela would battle with Steve until Steve was finally able to best him while Martin, who made up some ground, would find his way around John. Steve would see a small battle with Robert Grattan, who had dropped back during the start. Rockwood would get around Grattan and finish in 4th position with a pass on the front straight.

After half of the 14 lap race was completed, Harut made his pass on Khiem coming out of the final turn. He would not look back. Edo, though, would get past John Brizuela before Khiem came around to begin lapping back markers. However, John would be his only victim after the checkered flag flew and Harut Stepanyan would take the victory at the first ever MPTCC at K1 Torrance!
