MPTCC at K1 Speed in Torrance

While this was not an official points paying race, we did require everyone to slap on a Motul decal to ensure compliance and, well, pay the bills. Most would slap it on their shirt sleeve facing the outside of the track, though a couple of others got creative.

While it did stick for most guys' sleeves; Nick, Martin, and Khiem eventually placed their Motul decals on their helmets.

Qualifying got us off to an excellent start for the day. Martin Gonzales placed 8 of 8 with a lap of 29.842 seconds around K1. Martin was also the heaviest one there. Surprisingly, Edo Stepanyan was only just ahead of him by .008 second! Steve Rockwood, the only other MPTCC driver present, qualified 4th with a time of 29.147. Nick Betz was the highest qualifier of the MPTCC staff in second place with a time of 28.818 seconds. Finally, Khiem Dinh would be on pole with a qualifying time of 28.545 seconds.

Harut Stepanyan would end up being the “white fox” of the day. His lap times continued to get quicker as the races went on.

Even Nick was a bit surprised with a second place finish in qualifying. Most of his experience comes from drag racing, but he wasn't a slouch behind the wheel of this K1 kart.

Khiem would qualify first and be the favorite in the race, as he would be the first kart on the track for the standing start.
