Nerd’s Eye View: The Dyson Mazda ALMS P1 Prototype

With all hands on deck the car came back together pretty quickly.  Up close the Dyson car is a lot smaller than the old GTP cars of yore.

The compact greenhouse is full of stuff.

The dials govern traction control, brake control and engine mapping.  Engine functions are displayed on the Motec steering wheel display.

The seat is a containment unit to better protect the driver.  I feel that Prototypes are pretty safe cars as the driver is surrounded by many stiff carbon structures.

The pedal box is at the end of the narrow footwell.  The carbon tub is quite thick.

Opposite the driver is the FIA mandated passenger space.  Believe it or not, prototypes must be capable of carrying a passenger, an anorexic midget passenger.  This stuff here is the air conditioning system.  ALMS cars must have a sealed driver's compartment and have an air conditioning system capable of keeping the driver's compartment below 95 degrees regardless of what the outside temperature is so all ALMS car have AC!
