Project Bugeye GDA WRX: Fixing the Clutch with Exedy

,

Subaru guys. Particularly 5-speed WRX drivers are weird oil Nazi’s about their choice of transmission fluid- either swearing fanatically about using genuine Subaru fluids or swinging to the other extreme, often mixing up concoctions found via forums in hopes of improving shifts.

Ian is no exception, and he insisted on using genuine Subaru gear oil in the tranny even, though the palatial MotoIQ garage has many fine examples of high-end synthetic lubricants sitting on shelves.

Howard started out the clutch install by unbolting the downpipe from the turbine housing.

Next, the downpipe was loosened from the rear flange as well.

Now the downpipe can be removed.

Next, the driveshaft to the rear wheels is removed.
