Project Ford Fiesta ST, Getting Done-More Details

,

You can see the details of the scratch resistant lexan rear window including the vent holes created to exhaust the high pressure air from the car’s interior.  The window is secured with stainless button head allen bolts on top of a velcro tape cushion.
The side windows also feature vent holes.  The side windows go into the stock tracks but are secured with stainless allen bolts.
The front windshield has a center support to keep it from bowing and is also set down on velcro tape.
The velcro tape has give to protect the window from cracking and the soft surface keeps the window from being scratched and abraded by the steel window frame. The velcro also lets the window expand and contract so it won’t start stress cracks from the bolt holes.
The doors are fully gutted but nicely finished.   Most of the back side of the door has been cut away and the side intrusion beams have been removed.  This has taken nearly 100 lbs of weight out of the car.  You can see the door bracket that keeps the windows from falling down.  The bracket still allows the side windows to be removed pretty easily if you had to.
Since our Gold Coast Automotive big brakes required 17″ wheels, we needed 17″ tires.  We opted for Nitto NT01 DOT race tires in 235/40-17.  At 9.5″ wide, these are really big tires for a compact car. The NT01 is an all around race tire that wears and heat cycles really well.  Other tires are faster but the NT01 is good to the last bit of tread and consistent along the way.  The NT01 has a rayon carcass for heat resistance and a stiff steel reinforced sidewall for good response.  The long life and the consistency make the NT01 one of our favorite track day tires, especially when we have to pay for our own tires!

  1. There is still lots of work to get the weight down to 2300 lbs the fist fighting weight, I think once the weight goes down he will be able to come out on top of the Hondas with his ecoboost 1.6 litre engine and six speed 3.82 rear sets should be right in the ball park of the Hondas. If he could loose another 400 lb’s then he could be more than competitive. With a car that handles flat around corners. A limited slip differential up front would be icing on the cake.

  2. How did you get the tubes through the dash vents? Is the dash split and you can spread the vent hole around the tube? Nice touch for sure!
