The ST coilovers use this threaded perch that fits over the stock spring retainer built into the car for independent height adjustment. |
The ST coilovers are designed to use the stock upper isolators for both the front and rear to retain the relative peace and quiet of the stock suspension setup. On a daily driven car like our Golf, this is an especially important feature. Rattling coilover components are fine on a racecar whose engine and lack of windows generally drowns out any noise made by the suspension anyway. Rattling coilovers on a daily driven car with a wide variety of passengers means constant explanation to assure the uninitiated that no, your suspension is not going to fall off the car at any moment.
Howard installs the stock mounting hardware onto the ST dampers. Luckily, our car was new enough to not warrant new hardware. |
ST Speedtech coilovers with stock upper hat and isolator installed. Using the stock components helps mitigate some of the NVH issues found with more hardcore coilover setups. Some control is sacrificed, but is more than worth it for the sake of peace and quiet in a daily driver. |
Everything on the front end installed and ready to go. If you look carefully between the subframe and the passenger control arm, you can see the Whiteline sway bar lateral lock barely peeking out. Clean appearance under the car, pain in ze Kaiser to service. |
