Project Ruckus part 4, Building the ultimate Honda GET engine

,

Our lightened rocker arms and retainers on the left vs the stock parts on the right.  Lightening the valvetrain stuff greatly reduces the risk of valve float which in severe cases can destroy the engine.

With the porting taken care of, we turned our attention to the valvetrain.  We intended to spin our engine up to 10,500 rpm with a performance cam, which is way more valve motion than stock.  Since the stock rev limit is only 8900 rpm, we figured that we would have to do some work to be able to sustain those high revs reliably.  We first lightened and polished our valve retainers, making them about 30% lighter than stock.  Then we lightened and polished our rocker arms reducing the reciprocating weight by about 25%.

The valve stems, valve springs, rocker arms, retainers and rocker shafts were all WPC treated to help strengthen them and to reduce friction and improve wear.

To reduce friction, improve reliability and restore strength, we WPC treated the retainers, valve stems, rocker arms, rocker shafts,Battle Scooter cam and valve springs. To ensure proper gasket seal we hand lapped our head's sealing surface on a surface plate with 600 grit paper to make sure it was completely flat. To finish off our head, we sent it out to Embee coatings and had them apply there thermo barrier coating to the combustion chamber, valve faces and exhaust port.  This should protect our valves from the heat of combustion and help keep heat out of our engine's water jacket.

The gold stuff in our completed heads combustion chamber is Embee thermal barrier coating.  The coating helps keep heat out of the water jackets.  If the heat stays in the chamber it get converted into power!

Battle Scooter cam is the only game in town for the Honda GET engine.  It has increased duration and lift and is an asymmetrical profile.  We WPC treated it for less friction and better wear.

Stay tuned, in the next edition of Project Ruckus we finish up our motor build by going big bore with our bottom end!
