Project Tundra Part 3, Making Life Better with 3M Crystalline Window Tint and Protective Film

3M Crystalline Window Tint and Protective Film
Frank uses a steam gun to heat and stretch the film without drying it out.  This helps form the film but leaves water under it so it can be squeegeed without wrinkles.  Did we mention how hard this is for your average schmoe to do?  Its better to go to a 3M authorized dealer!

They then spent several hours stretching, steaming, trimming and squeegeeing the film into place.  The resulting finish is superb, even on our white truck you must look for the film to be able to spot it.  Frank also covered out headlights and foglights with Scotchgard film as well. Yellowed, foggy and pitted lights look terrible and the cost of new lights is high so we wanted to protect ours!

To seal the edges and to really get the film to stick, Frank uses a heat gun.  You have to have everything down and in place before using this as it really causes the film to tack up.

We really liked the performance of our 3M products on our Formula D road trip.  Even in scorching 112 degree heat, our truck stayed cool.  We never had to turn our AC past the 30% point even with 4 people in the cab.  Our dash didn’t get super hot and when parked, the interior of the truck felt like a place in the shade rather than your typical baking hot greenhouse that you are used to.  When driving in the bright hot sun, you never get the sensation of the sun beating down on you, even in the front seats with the big windshied. The Crystalline works so well that it is kinda eerie. We could blast though the Desert without a worry about paint chips and thrown up gravel as well.

Frank made our light protectors by hand cutting the film after heating stretching and squeegeeing it down.  No foggy pitted and yellowed lights for us ever!

Stay Tuned, in our next edition of Project Tundra, we will add to our truck’s utility with some Genuine Toyota Accessories.
