The Magnum tranny case has stiffer reinforced bulkheads, multiple shifter locations and left and right speedo drives with mechanical and electrical senders, all to make swaps easier. |
The T56 Magnum is an upgraded and refined version of the T56 that is upgraded to handle 700 lb/ft of torque which ends up being about a whopping 60% increase over the T56! The Magnum also has several refinements to shorten the shift stroke, smooth the shifting and to make its adaptation into a wide variety of chassis much easier.

The case is basically very similar to the old T56 but the front and rear bulkheads have been beefed up to prevent case flexing and shaft spreading which reduces tooth engagement. To make the transmission swappable into a bunch of different chassis some cool features have been added to the case. The top of the case has three covers that can be removed to expose a location on the shift rod where a shifter can be attached. This gives you about an 8” window of where the shifter can be placed. The case has provisions for a mechanical speedo pickup on the right side of the case and an electrical on the left to make close to plug and play swapping really easy.
There are three shifter cups on the shift rod to give plenty of shifter mounting flexibility. |
The supplied shifter base is stiff for positive shifting and has adjustable centering bias, which can easily be changed by turning a couple of allen screws. For the FD were are going to have to run the shifter several inches past the last shifter location so we will be running an offset shifter which at the time of this writing is still being fabricated so stay tuned for the details! Tremec also has an offset shifter that can be adjusted in many different directions but we have to relocate our shifter even further rearward so we can’t use that.
