Project V8 RX-7: More Oiling Insurance from Improved Racing, Accusump and Earl’s (Part 1 of 2)

earl's oil cooler bracketEarl’s also offers an optional mounting bracket kit that we modified a bit to permanently mount our bracket.  On one side of the cooler we cut and bent the bracket (left) to match the angle of the chassis where we drilled a mounting hole (right).

earls oil cooler mounting fd rx-7The result.  The bottom bracket remains to be mounted so that’s why it looks janky.  We tested the 120 and 90 degree fittings on the inlet and outlet side respectively of the oil cooler then manually cranked the retractable headlight through its sweep to make sure there was no interference.
Next we removed the oil bypass plug just above the oil filter where the Improved Racing oil thermostat and oil cooler adapter will bolt up.
improved racing oil thermostatWe are using a 120-degree -10 AN fitting on the inlet side of the thermostat and a 90-degree -10 AN fitting on the oulet side.  Both fittings will point their respective hoses in the same direction toward our oil cooler and well away from the hot exhaust manifold above.
