And finally the rear overfenders are fit up.
Once screwed into place, Doug can see how much real estate he has to play with under the overfender before gutting out the stock fender.
He first eyeballs about how high he thinks the stock fenderwell reaches at his highest point but he’s being conservative here not wanting to cut out too much all at once (like we would have done if we did it ourselves)…
…and then starts cutting the new arch for the rear fender. At this point the fender lip below the cut is still attached to the fenderwell.
Once he’s finished the cut he pries back the fender so he can start peeling it away from the fenderwell.
With a pair of pliers he just starts twisting and wrapping the excess fender away from the fenderwell. The outer fender is apparently just tack welded to the fenderwell so it doesn’t take much effort to separate it this way! We never would have thought of this!
