Redline Time Attack – Round 5 – Chicago

,

Apparently dipping two earns you second place. Ryan Gates in his Gates311.com/Nitto Tires Evo X.

Again the crew at Autobahn proved their worth and had the track clean and ready to race for the modified cars. They came out in force with the Modified AWD guys ripping it up as the green dropped, Ryan Gates had turned up the wick in his Evo X, and despite his less than perfect aero package, managed to turn his fastest lap of the weekend. In the end it wasn’t enough to overcome Brian Lock in the Cobb Tuning GTR. The podium had Brian Lock on top with a 1:28.211, Ryan Gates with a 1:28.939, and Tony Wiesenhahn in the Turn In Concepts WRX third with a 1:30.347. We look forward to future events as Ryan Gates appears to have something for the Cobb GTR.

To the victors go the cheesy pictures with girls out of their league… Sorry fella’s at least you’re fast!

Also on track were the Modified Front Wheel Drive and Rear Wheel Drive classes. In the FF challenge local boy Benji Jay piloted his Pro Function Honda Civic to a 1:36.931 to clinch 1st followed by Brandon Gutierrez also in his Pro Function Honda Civic who managed a 1:42.874. In Modified RWD there was no question that Dave Hary was the class of the field. He guided the S Max Intercoolers RHD Nissan Silvia to a 1:41.749, getting the better of David Zaytsev in his 350Z (1:47.505) and Pierre Paniagua in his 240SX (1:47.831).

The S-Max (JDM tyte yo!) S15 was exceptionally well built. It showed as Dave Hary put it on the top of the podium besting his fellow competitors by over 5 seconds….

The Drift class saw two entrants and ironically enough it was the old vs. new battle of the M3’s. Stefan Sajic’s Supercharged E46 took top honors with a 1:40.171 followed by Victor Gutierrez in his current generation supercharged M3 1:42.074

The drift class turned out to be an M3 battle… Stop skimming the pics. and read the article to find out who won….

The Super Modified classes were settled with less drama…. Trent Choi running un-opposed in the Touge Factory/Stance Mitsubishi Evo did not let up as in his only session of the weekend he submitted a victory lap of 1:27.791. He parked the car and took home both the Super Mod. AWD and overall championships.

Apparently all of the aero stuff works! Trent Choi in the Touge Factory/Stance Evo took the Super Modified and overall title’s with a 1:27.791.
