It's not often that you'll see a Karmann Ghia at a show like SEMA. I would have said it's never that you'd see one with a Viper V10 engine sandwiched into the nose if I hadn't come across this particular example. Viper guys might be up in arms and some of the air-cooled VW crowd I'm sure are not fans but I love this thing. This was my favorite car of the show.
Packaging a V10 engine into the nose of what was originally a rear engine flat 4 configuration car took some serious trickery. Now that the cockpit and firewall have had to be moved further back the Karmann Ghia is strictly a 2-seater rather than a 2+2.
Possibly more notable than the massaged body and exquisitely crafted leather interior was the booth itself. This roadster was sitting on actual genuine turf as opposed to carpet which was part of a larger picnic theme for the booth.
A supercharger mounted atop another supercharger. Why not? This is SEMA after all.
Dai Yoshihara's 2014 Formula D ride was on display in the Falken tires booth. Construction is still under way on the BRZ but we're hoping for a return to the top rungs of the Formula D ladder with this new chassis.
I'd never seen a Lamborghini Aventador in the flesh before. Now, thanks to SEMA, I've seen my first through tenth ones this year. They're even wider and lower in person than I had imagined.
I can't remember whose display this is but it's here every year in the wheel and tire hall. I just call it ballers row. The lineup goes something like: Rolls Royce, Mercedes, Audi, Lamborghini, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Ferrari, Lamborghini and finally another Rolls.
Here Khiem Dinh does his best Johnny Tran baller impersonation. No question, these wheels would look dope on Project S2000. They'd probably fetch a premium right before Race Wars. On a sad note: RIP Paul Walker. 🙁
