Quanta Hybrid Performance had their QHP770 C6 Corvette on display. The Vette is packing twin 100kW YASA 750 axial flux electric motors which have been incorporated into the rear differential. The addition of the electric motors to the existing 505 horsepower power plant from Chevy is said to be good for a combined 770 horsepower.
Power for the electric motors is provided by a trunk mounted 400V, 30Ah battery pack and delivered to the differential by dual Sevcon controllers. Looks like the dilemma of where to put your golf clubs in a Corvette has been solved.
Don “Big Daddy” Garlits is a legendary name in drag racing. He was the first man to travel faster than 200mph in the quarter mile. Now at age 81 he will be piloting the Swamp Rat 37 which is aimed to become the first electric drag race vehicle to eclipse 200mph in the quarter mile. With the equivalent of just over 2000hp in electric power this car should run the quarter mile in about 6 seconds.
This is the SRI EV1 electric buggy which completed every stage of this year's SCORE Baja 1000. The EV1 uses full Bilstein suspension and sends its 400hp and 600lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 4 speed transmission.
This buggy is packing twin 41-kWh hot swappable battery packs. In speaking with a member of the team he explained that they were able to go about 80 miles of desert racing before needing to stop for a charge. Due to the cost of the battery packs the team only had one set available, this meant stopping for 4 hours to charge the batteries before carrying on. On some longer stages two stops were required.
Doing without any sort of electric propulsion is this Bisimoto built 2014 Honda Odyssey Power-Van. Built to the tune of 1029 horsepower there's no excuse for failing to get the kids to soccer practice on time.
Available for close inspection in the Toyota booth was this cutaway TRD NASCAR V8. These pushrod engines turn in excess of 10,000 RPM.
