Sneak Peek: S13 Tube Chassis Drift Car, Part I

As the car is going tube chassis, the whole frontend gets hacked off.  One cool thing with this “kit car” tube chassis concept is a frontend wrecked car can still be used as the donor.  Of course, the front subframe needs to be retained.

Peter went to town with the sawzall.  How does it feel to hack up your old car?

Hella flush yo!
Did I mention Gary is a perfectionist?  After the big bits were out of the way, the guys went about removing the smaller bits to remove more weight.  Hey, it all adds up in the end.  The factory out-rockers are retained as they will serve as a good fastening point for the body to the tube chassis.

tube frame s13A jig is critical in chassis fabrication.  If the jig is whack, the chassis ends up whack too.  So, a straight jig is required for a straight chassis.  After the jig is completed, it has to be leveled which makes it easier to square off some of the tubing in the chassis.
