Tested: Schroth Quick Fit Harnesses

,

The Schroth Quick-Fit harnesses bolt into your car using the factory seat belt hardware.  This has several advantages.  First of all, this makes it extremely easy to install, since you don’t have to install a harness bar, remove your rear seats, or cut up your interior.  Secondly, utilizing the stock seat belt connections lets the car’s body control module (BCM) know that seat belts are still being used, meaning any airbag deployment will use the lower “seat belt” setting as opposed to the more forceful “no seat belt” one.  It also prevents the dash from lighting up and making that annoying seat belt ding.  But the biggest advantage is utilizing the factory hardpoints, which are already engineered to withstand a 3,000-pound load for 6 seconds. There is no guesswork needed to figure out what point in the car will be sturdy enough to mount your harnesses to.

The harnesses obviously require 4 anchor points.  The two “interior” anchors are simply the factory female seat belt connections that you use every time you drive your car.  (This is also how the BCM knows seat belts are being used.)  However, the “exterior” anchors require installation of an additional bracket to both the front and rear seats.

The bracket on the right installs to the factory mount for the driver’s side seat belt…
…which then plugs into this part of the actual harness, making installation and removal of the harness a “snap.”
In order to install this first bracket, remove the factory seatbelt anchor using a T50 Torx bit.
Then, simply insert the bolt through the bracket, apply a bit of thread locker, and reinstall the anchor bolt.  Torque all bolts to 30 ft-lbs.
Installation of the rear brackets requires removing the rear seat bottom.  This is actually extremely easy; it’s held in with clips and just lifts away.  The seat belt anchor we’re using for the passenger side is on the left in this picture.
