Fredric Aasbo’s car developed an oil leak that was traced down to a porous weld and his crew got to work on that. |
Tanner Foust and his Scion TC needs no introduction. |
Ryan Tuerck’s Gardella Racing LS7 powered Saturn Sky was there but Ryan and his crew were still flying in from the east coast. This is Ryan’s back up car. |
There were tourists around on guided tours that would gawk at us from the podium above the garage. |
JRod interviews Dai on his thoughts so far on the trip. The PR stuff for this trip was very organized and demanding of the drivers’ time, they had to do many interviews for local TV, radio, and other media all the time as well as make guest appearances. Fortunately we didn’t have to do that sort of stuff but the drivers were kept pretty busy. |
We were busy looking for loose bolts in the hastily assembled car, completing the chassis set up and fixing some pesky and persistent oil leaks. Our chassis tools got misplaced which made my primary job much harder. |
We had to go to a facility orientation meeting at the Yas Marina driving school. It was pretty plush and opulent, to a mind blowing degree. This place was like a resort more than a racetrack. |
Radicals used by the driving school. A brisk business was run giving tourists hot lap rides in these. Look how clean the place is! The school cars were flawless and looked more like show cars, not your typical patched up school cars. |
The other school cars were these Aston Martins. These too were in show car condition. |
The plush viewing deck of the drivers school, sofas, and yes that is a real teakwood deck. There was teak furniture out there too! |
Costa and I taking a break from boring meetings. |
We get our first look at the drift course. The cars would come drifting down this hill and sweepers at over 100 mph at the top of 4th gear! It was a very difficult and technical course but the Formula D drivers are all top pros. |
