VIDEO: “Climb Attack” from Will Roegge

…Actually, we should probably call it a “film” and not a “video,” as that nomenclature suggests a higher quality production. Here we have another killer “film” by Will Roegge and Joshua Herron (both notorious for their drifting videos) with something only slightly different. Rhys Millen, of Formula D, Pikes Peak and that Super Bowl Hyundai Genesis commercial fame, approached Will about putting together a short film on his latest Pikes Peak hill climb attempt. Last year, Millen set the record for the 2WD Time Attack Class in his Pontiac Solstice GXP with a time of 12 minutes, 31.06 seconds. This year he hoped to not only beat that old time, but break into the 11 minute range. His weapon? The same 580hp Hyundai Genesis Coupe he pilots in Formula D. While he didn't quite make it into the 11's, he did beat his old record and got a bitchin' video out of it from Will and Josh.
Stuck with having to learn to do video for MotoIQ and 370Z.com I spoke with Will briefly in Seattle last week to pick his brain as I fumbled to find the ON button on my “video” camera. I asked him how he gets some of his shots (most notably at 2:32 in the “film”) and I was relieved to learn that much of it is trial and error. Good news, that's one more thing I don't have to learn!
