ALMS Laguna Seca Monterey 2010 American Le Mans Series

Before I go into any further details of the weekend’s event do not read on if you plan to watch the re-airing of the race or the production that CBS Sports will be airing this Saturday (5/29).  Just want to make sure I don’t give away the end for those that are into the suspense.  With that said, on with the recap.

It was an exciting race from begining to end.  New race lap records were set in all classes except for GT, but they had their own share of excitement…especially at the end.  The overall winner of the race was the Patron Highcroft Racing team, who ran the HPD ARX-01c #1 car.  The Highcroft and Dyson Racing teams duked it out for almost two and a half hours until the Dyson Mazda powered Lola had to call it quits after their oil filter popped off and shut the car down, but not before setting a new race lap record with a 1:14.262.

The LMPC class saw a return visitor to the winner’s circle as Level 5 Motorsports team won their second race of the season.  The trio of Tucker, Bouchut and Wilkins also set a new race lap record for the LMP Challenge class with a time of 1:19.343.

The GTC class, not to be confused with the GT3 Challenge, saw a first time winner.  The #54 of Black Hawk Racing brought home its first win in the series with authority.  The white and green Porsche not only led all six hours of the race, but ended up an entire lap ahead of the field.
