With Michele's engine trouble, she and the Dynamic Autosport crew were now out of Race One. They worked overnight to put the rocker arms and valve bucket shims back in place. This is what happens when the engine in the 2012 tC is over-revved. While this may seem like an easy problem to solve using rocker arm stoppers like the ones available for the SR20 engines, there is a huge risk involved in doing so. Instead of just popping off the shims and rockers, you now risk bent valves and severe engine damage. Guess what's easier, quicker, and cheaper to replace? Yeah, no rocker stoppers for me. |
What the? That's Mike Kojima and Martin Gonzales in Project G20, but what are they doing? |
REAL WORLD PROBLEMS! Steve being the offical 70/30 Racing chauffeur for the weekend, the G20's key was left in Steve's car after race 1. Well, Steve's offspring were under the weather and he would not be able to make back in time for practice and maybe qualifying. No problem, Martin can jump in the car and handle it…..but Steve has the key! Project G20 still uses the key to power the ignition and ECU, but the anti-theift devices are disabled per NASA rules, so Mike and Martin were trying to hotwire the car…LOL. The streets were mean to Mike in his days and he apparently had to learn how to hotwire cars to get around. Yeah, who am I kidding, he just knows the wiring. |
After such a decisive win in Race One, the Edo Motorsports and Rockstar Garage crews didn't have much to do prior to the morning practice. Edo had a front wheel bearing fail on him, without a Honda shop open after the race, he had to rely on a cheap bearing from a local auto parts store. Actually, it was more expensive than the OEM Honda bearing, which lasted Edo years. He didn't expect this one to last the last race. The Buddy Club brakes on Justin's S2000 did require a pad change before Race 2 practice. |
Not wanting to risk possible damage to the G20's wiring using Mike's mad hot wiring skills, Martin decided to shut down the efforts and wait for Steve to make it back in time for qualifying. With time ticking down, it looked as if Project G20 would have to make their start at the back of the pack. |
That would have been the case if Rockwood, with family in tow, hadn't made it in time. With just a few minutes to spare and get his suit on, Steve Rockwood would take to qualifiying for Race Two. |
