Fear and Loathing in Bonneville (My Trip to Speedweek)

,

Recovering the car is an exacting procedure as the car has to clear the course and be transported out of the stopping area quickly.  The crew has to wrap the chute and perform a careful inspection for missing parts.  Any missing parts have to be reported to course control right away.  Hitting an object at high speeds can be very dangerous so this is taken very seriously.  Chris takes tire temps, I pack the chute, Chuck and Stephen inspect the car and Annie gets the tow sling hooked up and positions the tow truck.
Chuck is carefully checking the engine compartment for any missing parts.
I carefully get the chute ready for packing.
After running a couple more times and obtaining the category D, C, and B licenses, and after clearing up our little rookie non-tech compliant snafu (which Annie will cover later) we are clear to chase after the BGC-G record!
One of the rules is that all racecars have to be towed to help save the salt.  Since Bonneville is so big, towing from the course to the pits can take nearly an hour at the speed limit.
Nightfall on the salt flats is very beautiful if you have the time to look.  All racers are kicked off the salt at 8pm every night.
