Formula Drift Round 4: New Jersey – Wall Stadium Speedway

,

Jim Guthrie
Despite the spin, a One More Time was called.

Next was the battle of Jim Guthrie in the Car Crafters FD RX-7, who was the lowest qualifier of the event at 31 and Vaughn Gittin, Jr. in the Monster Energy Ford Mustang. While Guthrie spun on his first run, Vaughn decided to run super-conservative and not really battle Guthrie to save his car. The Judges, however, stated that all cars MUST battle and that there needed to be a one more time! On their OMT run, Guthrie spun on his first run again, but this time, Vaughn battled Guthrie right up to the finish line, as they crossed, Guthrie’s differential locked up and he skidded to a stop with a full speed JR doing everything he could to avoid him and because of the spin, JR took the win!

Darren McNamara eliminated Fredrick Aasbo.  Fredrick then took to the controllers booth and helped JRod commentate for the rest of the event.

Next was the Need for Speed Scion tC of Fredric Aasbo and the Falken Tire Saturn Sky of Darren McNamara, while Aasbo was impressive, McNamara was more so and took the win. Next would have been Ryan Kado and the RETAKS “240LS” of Toshiki Yoshioka, but because Ryan could not make it to the line, Toshiki got the bye-run. Also getting a bye run was the Falken Tire Ford Mustang of Justin “JTP” Pawlak. Then it was the Gardella Racing Pontiac Solstice of Eric O’Sullivan and the Scion Racing tC of Ken Gushi and despite the power difference, Ken Gushi held true to his word, “I decided in the last round (PBIR) that I was just going to stick to the guy’s door,” said Gushi prior to Top 32 and the judges rewarded him with the win.

Vaughn Gittin, Jr and Jim Guthrie
However, Vaughn stayed on point and took the OMT!

Then came the Federal Tires/V-LEDS Dodge Viper of Dean Kearney and the Discount Tires S13 240SX of Daijiro Yoshihara. Proving once again that the Viper can be a handfull, Dean spun on both of his runs and gave the win to Daijiro! Next was the GSR BMW of Mike Essa and the Nexen Tire/Mazdatrix RX-8 of Kyle Mohan, but while following Mohan, Essa spun prior to the finish. Mohan put on a great following run and gave chase the whole time, which earned the win for Mohan!

A broken diff ended Walker Wilkersons day.

Then the battle of the Fatlace S13 of Walker Wilkerson and the NOS Energy 370Z of Chris Forsberg commenced, Walker put on the run of his career against Forsberg, but mechanical troubles kept Walker from finishing his lead run and the win went to Forsberg by default. Then the battle of the LS V8s of the BOSO/Falken S15 of Ross Petty and the Evasive FC RX-7 of Charles Ng. Ng put up a decent fight, but Ross was the better man and moved on. With that the Top 32 was set and the Half Time Break began.
