Global Time Attack Round 3 – The Chicago Recap

,

To be honest with the rain on Saturday and the drive back home lurking we contemplated leaving as we knew what the results were, however wanting to make sure we covered everything and take pics. of the check presentations we stuck around. Honestly I would have been PISSED if we left as GTA knows how to present the winners! To the victor go the spoils and in this case our 3rd place winners were presented with a tall boy size “Cold Steel” and a set of Steak Knives, the real prizes are $100 each in Kognition Carbon Cash and $100 in AFI turbo bucks. Seriously that is what they got and honestly I was a bit jealous of them. 2nd place winners received a bottle of Champagne, a $200 check as well as $200 Kognition Aero and AFI turbo certificates. 1st place winners got $500 for their efforts along with champagne and $300 Kognition and AFI turbo bucks. Jeff Westphal for his overall win and record got an even larger check of $1,000.

In addition to these prizes Jeff Westphal, GST, and Kicker sponsored the Kicker Audio giveaway. The contest was held on-line and whomever came closest to guessing Jeff’s final best time for the weekend would win $1,200 in Kicker audio products. The winner was announced on-line and Laramie Caagbay Liang took home the gear.

Ryan Upham never stood a chance with nothing but a can of Cold Steel. Jeff Westphal served up a heaping platter of ownage in both the Time Attack and Champagne dousing competitions.

Having been to other track and time attack events I have NEVER been to one like this. EVERYONE I met was super cool, willing to answer any and all questions, and went out of there way to talk to fans and meet people. The teams travel together and help each other in a time of need. At the risk of waxing philosophical I think much of society would do well to take a page out of this play book as the people running and competing in GTA are truly a class act.

Global Time Attack will be closing out their inaugural season November 12th and 13th at Infineon Raceway. Time Attack as a sport needs our help, remember to show up to events as a spectator, buy merchandise, and spread the word. Without fans and competitor’s their efforts are for naught.
