Matt Powers 2012 Formula D Ride!

,

A close up look at the two unsecured layers of sheetmetal in the shock tower area.  This is a major flex point if left as is.

Costa on it with a Mig welder.  He is fusing the layers together so they wont flex as easily.  Most of the seam welding is done with Mig.

The completed weld.

Here is more seam welding completed in the shock tower and engine compartment area.

More welding in the A Pillar and unibody leading to the shock towers.  A continuous weld bead will only slightly increase stiffness and make the unibody much harder to repair so skip welding is performed here.

More welding in the wheel well area.  This is perhaps one of the most critical areas of the car for stiffness and strength.
The rest of the chassis is also welded, here are some welds in the rear fenderwell area.

Stay tuned for other chapters in this story as we follow the build up of Matt’s car!
