MotoIQ Pacific Tuner Car Championship presented by Motul, Round 1 & 2, Willow Springs International Raceway

For the most part I kept my line clean, but did have a couple close calls.  One of which was around turn 4 at about the 12 minute mark when I wound up going around the apex at full opposite lock.  I'm just happy I was able to recover and avoid the spin.  The other intense moment was at around the 20 minute mark when a Honda Challenge Integra spun in front of me in the middle of turn 2 in which I was able to narrowly avoid the collision.  My girlfriend Ashley was in the same race group driving her PTE class Miata, actually behind me when it happened and said it couldn't have been closer and was certain there would be impact.  Luckily that was not the case.  
All close calls aside, I was able to hold my position for my first race win.  I was more relieved at the time then happy because of all the stress.

Come Sunday, the bad weather had blown itself out but there was heavy rain over night.  Race group “A” which was the group we ran in had the first warm-up session of the day.  Both Martin and I elected to pass on the warm-up because it was not only still wet, but extremely cold.  So most like even worse surface grip then Saturday's race.  Justin dropped out of Sunday's race day because of a prior commitment, which is a bummer since Sunday stayed dry all day.  But fortunately for him, the MotoIQ Pacific Tuner Car Championship presented by Motul drops one round per season from the points total. So as long as Justin shows up for the rest of the rounds, he's still in the fight for a year end title. Another unfortunate turn of events was on the final lap of Saturday's race, Martin's G20 had a wastegate actuator arm snap.  So on Sunday, Project G20 had a severe lack of spool response and was down on power, but still packing more torque output then my EF's naturally aspirated 1.8 liter engine.  
 

Despite the G20's engine running on what Martin liked to call “NA+” configuration with a constantly open wastegare.  The chassis setup and tire grip was tried and true allowing Martin to hold solid cornering speed and get used to the track in dry conditions.  
Through turn 6's crest apex, Martin keeps the hammer down to get the most out of what turbo power was able to pump with a stuck open wastegate.  I followed Martin through some corners and his line work was spot on, just more seat time to shake off the Big Willow cobwebs will get his pace up.
Speaking with Martin after the qualifying session, he was feeling a lot more comfortable and confident.  If only the G20 was making full power so he could really run at speed.  
The qualifying session was very exciting for me as I was able to really get a feel for Project EF's new setup.  Another plus was being able to get used to passing in a qual session at full speed.  The combination of the new Fortune Auto double adjustable coilovers, the Maxxis RC-1 tires, and the OS Giken LSD made for a transformed car.  Also, knowing the welded front upper camber arms were not going to slip on me helped my confidence.  
With Project EF functioning correctly and myself getting more accustomed to the car's behavior, I was able to secure the Motovicity Top Qualifier at a lap time pace of 1.34:627.
