MotoIQ Pacific Tuner Car Championship presented by Motul, Round 1 & 2, Willow Springs International Raceway

,

My off road shenanigans allowed Martin to close the gap I had built from the race start.  So now my concentration had to be extremely high to keep things smooth and fast while working off all the rocks my sticky tires had accumulated.
Keeping everything under control but still pushing for quick laps, I slowly but surely started to build a gap on Martin and also reeled in the rest of the race group “A” field.
Fighting through Honda Challange traffic as I made my way to the front.  Project EF was performing well and reliable.  Engine temps stayed cool, as well as oil pressure staying consistent even through the loaded, sweeping turns.  Braking performance thanks to the Winmax USA brake pads was predictable and easy to modulate throughout the race.
The combination of being down on turbo torque and pushing through the mixed field traffic kept Martin from giving me a run for my money come the last half of the race.
Through out the race though Martin kept improving his pace and precision.  I'm really proud of him for conquering his mental block from the incident
As the race went on, I eventually moved my way up to the front off race group “A” where I would ultimately finish both first in class and first over all with a best lap time of 1.33:992.
Martin completed the race without any trouble securing his 2nd place repeat for the weekend.  I look forward to seeing Project G20 running tip top and killing me in the straights because that's what turbos do best.

The driver's from the weekend also wanted to say some words thanking sponsor's and friends that made this race weekend possible.

“First and foremost we'd like to thank Motul, Motovicity, ARP and NASA for their support. Without them we could not have our race series. A special thanks goes out to Howard of TechnoSquare for all his guidance and help throughout our efforts to get the Project Infiniti G20 back on track. Thank you to JE Pistons, K1 Rods, Jim Wolf Technologies, StopTech, RC Engineering, Turbosmart, Vibrant, K&N and Fontana Nissan for their support of our project as well. Though the rain and weather weren't perfect, it actually made for a good environment to break in our new engine. We didn't have to stress it very hard and were as to put load on it at different rpms. Other than the wastegate actuator arm breaking, every other part of the car worked flawlessly. A testament of the parts used and the experience we had guiding us. Thank you again to all who continue to help and support our build and race series.” -Martin Gonzales

“Rockstar Garage and BuddyClub have been with me from the beginning and I can't thank them enough for the support and generosity toward my racing efforts.  The S2000 would not be where it is today without them.” – Justin Taylor

“The list of people and sponsors I have to thank for this weekend is long and truly shows how lucky I am to have such a backing for my program.  My girlfriend Ashley DeLuca supports me like no other and I can't be more thankful for that.  My crew of the Navarro' brothers Juan and Jesse, and my father Rick are always there when I need them.  To all my sponsors Fortune Auto, OS Giken, Swift Springs, Jackson Racing, Maxxis Tires,Godspeed Project, Race Technologies, LLC, Rays Engineering. Mackin Industries Inc., Sire Custom Performance, Aerowerkz Motorsport,Anaheim Gear, Winmax USA, Synchrotech Transmissions, Inc. KazeSpec Engineering, Avery Dennison Graphics Solutions – North America, Daley Visual, Circuit Hero, Motul North America, ARP, I wouldn't be able to race without you!  Last but not least, MotoIQ for putting on a fun series and making Project EF a part of the family.” – Clint Boisdeau

Thanks to fellow MotoIQ staffer Nick Betz, I was nominated for the “ARP Stud of the Weekend” Award for over coming adversity from the control arm debacle, winning back to back for Round 1 and 2, and my first wheel to wheel race being in the rain as a rookie.  I really just tried to do my best, but I appreciate the recognition from my fellow MotoIQ staff.

With the first two rounds of the MotoIQ Pacific Tuner Car Championship presented by Motul in the books, I look forward to the May 16th-17th weekend at AutoClub Speedway “Roval”.  With twice the amount of cars expected to compete, the racing should be close and very exciting.  Stay tuned on MotoIQ.com for build updates on your favorite race cars.
