Another big step was getting the transmission rebuilt and upgraded. James Orenelas, owner and tech at GhostWerks in Upland took on the task of putting the S4C transmission's 4th and 5th gears into my S80 transmission. The factory 4th and 5th gear in my S80 are awkwardly tall and don't match 1st-3rd well. With the shorter S4C 4th and 5th, the gear spacing will be more ideal and keep the high revving B18C in its power band. As well with the gear swap, all gear sets, sliders, bearings, and synchros were replaced and upgraded. Project EF has never seen a better condition transmission.
While transmission parts were in transit, I was able to take my LSD down to one of my principal sponsors OS Giken to inspect and upgrade the super lock LSD. As Expected, the internal parts of the LSD were in tip top shape even with the year's worth of races on it thus far. Jonathan Lugod made some pre load setting changes to better handle apex curb shenanigans.
The Fortune Auto Pro 2 ways also saw some changes. The dampers were upgraded with Fortune Auto's new CFD (Concave Flow Digressive) Piston – follow the link to learn more about them. Also implemented were some minor high speed damping tweaks from my input thus far this season, as well as being revalved for a slightly higher rear spring rate. Fortune Auto's customer service and turn around is top notch.
Throughout the year, Project EF has had some strange issues with electronics on occasion. The stock wiring which was modified for the B18C VTEC engine and Hondata S300 was rather messy and hard to work with. So to simplify the electronics and eliminate hard to diagnose issues, the pile of OE harness is being replaced with a Hasport/King Motorsports race harness and Longacre Racing switch panel. Another added benefit is significant weight reduction.
The final upgrade to the puzzle was to replace the dented and damaged OEM 98+ spec ITR header for this Hytech Tri-Y header. This design is a huge improvement over my stock unit and should make much better mid range torque and top end power. Hytech make some of the best production headers in the world.
