On the 8th Day – Falken Tires S13

,

A large 10 lb halon fire control system keeps things safe.

As Scott worked on the fabrication, Steve focused on plumbing and wiring while Dai and Owen focused on getting parts together and any other jobs that building the car required.  The Falken crew has amazingly good teamwork and camaraderie and all pitched in to make the impossible happen, working around the clock.  I returned from a trip with 24 hours left and was amazed to find the car almost done.  I went to work at chassis setup as the Discount tire graphics were being applied.  The sight was amazing, empty Red Bull cans and 5 hour energy bottles littered the shop, fast food debris were decaying in the corners. Steve had lost 20 lbs and the rest of the crew looked half dead, they had been awake for most of the last 72 hours working on the car.

Sturdy battery box is mounted soidly welded to the floor.  The hose is connected to a breather system that feeds fresh filtered air to Dai’s helmet.

Motec dash monitors up to 32 channels of data and lets Dai know of any problems with the engine.

The trunk floor is home to a Fuel Safe fuel cell with dual pickups.  An Aeromotive fuel pump, filters and regulator feeds fuel for the LS2.  An Accusump protects the engine from oil starvation in violent cornering.  If the oil pickup sucks air, the Accusump feeds the engine with 15 psi pressurized oil from its 4 quart accumulator.  The Accusump is the next best thing to a drysump.
