On the 8th Day – Falken Tires S13

,

An SPL Pro lower arm allows fine adjustment of the camber, roll center and steering axis as well as eliminating some squishy rubber bushings.  The control arms are spaced downward by the arms outer ball joint.  This raises the roll center and corrects the camber curve, critical on a lowered McPherson strut suspension. A Tein tension arm also gets rid of rubber bushings and allows for caster adjustment.  A Progress adjustable front sway bar uses spherical bearings in the end links.  SPL Pro tie rod ends are adjustable for bump steer.  Believe it or not the S13 only has about 1/8″ of bump steering over the stroke of the front suspension.  Tein inner tie rods give more steering angle.

After Sonoma the SPD and Falken crew didn’t rest.  Refinements to the car’s suspension geometry and other suspension work were completed to improve traction and steering response.  Dai qualified the 8 day wonder 6th at Irwindale’s house of drift in the 7th and final round of the 2009 Formula D season.  Dai went two round before getting eliminated after getting blinded by billowing tire smoke from Tanner Foust’s V8 Scion and clipping a barrier, losing points.  This was Discount Tires highest Formula D finish in history.

KW motorsport Dampers are used in the front suspension as well.

The front remote reservoirs are mounted in the engine compartment for quick access to the adjusting screws.
