The next battle in Top 16 was Daryl Priyono in his E36 versus Mac Cruz in his FC RX-7. This battle got pretty smoky and there were moments of extreme proximity, but Priyono maintained a high line both runs and took the win.
The third battle in Top 16 was Micah Diaz in his widebody E46 against Don Boline in his Nissan 350z. In the first run, both drivers stay together on initiation. Diaz maintains big angle and high speed throughout the last outer zone. On the chase run, Diaz has to slow down quite a bit, but remains close to Boline the majority of the run, giving Diaz the win.
Two drivers who are new to TDL (not new to ProAm drifting however) end up paired up in Top 16 – Pablo Cabrera in his s13 versus Alex Grimm in his newly build Camaro. It was definitely an exciting battle to watch. Both drivers were fast and maintained a fast and high line on the bank. However it seems that Cabrera maintained a little more proximity on his chase run, giving him the win.
TDL Round 1, Second Place driver Dan Stuke in his s13 takes on Carlos Cano Estrella in his AE86. Stuke always puts on a great show when he’s on track. Unfortunately, Irwindale’s infamous wall claimed Stuke’s car. His team ended up calling a Competition Timeout and attempted to fix the vehicle within the five-minute window, but unfortunately the damage was not repairable within that timeframe. This resulted in Cano Estrella moving on in competition.
Then Chris Jones takes on Round 1 winner and series leader, Josh Mason. Although Jones had a strong lead and chase run, Mason smoked out Jones quite a bit on his new MileStar tires.
