Project Cappuccino: Driveline Love with Monster Sport Bushings
Suzuki Cappuccino OEM vs Monster Sport Differential Mount
Monster Sport’s kit replaces all of the original bushings. The bushings are identical in design to the Suzuki bushings, but made of a harder durometer rubber. This will reduce movement which will help under launching, but without the addition of gear noise in the cabin. The differential sits directly behind the passengers so keeping gear noise down is a priority for a street driven car.
Suzuki Cappuccino Moustache Bar with New Bushings
We took our differential and its mount to J-Tune Performance to have the bushings replaced. They used a hydraulic press to press out the old bushings and press in the new Monster Sport bushings.

One really important item to note is that the rear mount MUST be oriented correctly. Monster Sport mimics the voids Suzuki molded into their mount. The direction is important as the solid parts of the bushing are designed to support the diff when it is being loaded under acceleration. Get it wrong and you will end up with horrendous driveshaft noise as the pinion angle goes out of spec. With the bushings in place, we can reinstall the diff. Installation is identical to removal.
Royal Purple 75W-90 Gear Oil
We used Royal Purple’s 75W-90 gear oil to refill our diff. This is good for open or factory Torsen LSDs and is the same oil we used in the transmission. If you use a clutch diff, your weight may vary. Any diff will only take around 1 quart of oil. Once again, everything in the Cappuccino is tiny.

How do you make a Miata feel fat?  Park a Cappuccino next to it.

On the street our new mounts have had no real impact: engine or transmission noise is no better or worse than it was with our original mounts. Perfect! When autocrossing we noticed that it was easier to spin the tires when launching: this indicates more of the Cappuccino’s torque is being transmitted to the tires and not into deforming rubber mounts. This is exactly what we want! No increase in noise or vibration but better power transfer. We highly recommend these mounting kits as they are well priced, improve the performance of the Cappuccino, but don’t negatively impact its street manners.
