We’re taking a step back from go fast parts to add a layer of protection with Rennline’s Grill Guards. To keep the Cayman GTS performant and track ready Porsche fitted the car with three radiators. On the Spyder and GT4 trims those radiators are protected by grill guards from the factory but for the GTS, S and Base trims the radiators are left completely exposed to rocks and other debris.
Our friend Khiem documented the third radiator in detail in his Project 718 Cayman T series here on MotoIQ: “The higher trim GTS Cayman comes with a centrally mounted third radiator for additional cooling to supplement the thermal system for the higher power engine; more power equals more heat to reject.” Also equals more radiators to have rocks to fly into.
While there are a number of options to address this issue. Rennlines product stood out to us for the factory like finish and material quality. The Rennline Radiator Protection Grill Screens (SKU E1002) are powder-coated aluminum mesh that mounts behind the bumper openings and are held in with self-tapping screws. The mesh is fine enough to catch what should be harmful but open enough that it isn’t choking the airflow. For those that don’t have the center radiator obviously the center mesh protection isn’t necessary.

We went to Aces Auto Elite to get the work done. We’ve been to Aces before to get our annual service done, and Brian one of their certified Porsche techs, is one of the few people we trust with our car. For those of you who prefer to DIY, this is a job you can do at home. While our video (on the last page) isn’t fully step by step it should be helpful for those interested in either the grill guard install or just the bumper removal. Rennline includes the similar process of installing the grill guards on a 911 but the 718 has its own differences.

The Rennline screens do look to seal better around the perimeter of the openings compared to the Radiators Grill Store pieces. Bugs and things and sneak by the grills at the edges. That’s the price to pay for being able to install without removing the bumper.
