Project EVO MR – Engine Bolt Ons Part 2

,

Removal of the factory boost solenoid and hoses was our first step.  The OEM wiring plug attached to the brown connector is plugged into the Cobb boost control solenoid we described in our last edition.

We mounted the Cobb solenoid on the OEM bracket in place of the stock boost control solenoid.

The three port boost solenoid attaches in the OEM location directly underneath the brake master cylinder on the driver’s side.  We used new silicone vacuum line to route the vacuum signal to the solenoid.  The three port solenoid will allow for more accurate control of boost and a wider control range than the stock solenoid.

Here we are installing the transitional hose coupler for the upper intercooler pipe (2.25″ to 2.5″).

The upper intercooler pipes are installed and the turbo inlet pipe from the AEM intake kit is attached.  It is easier to install this part when the upper intercooler pipe is out of the car.

The compressor bypass recirculation hose is attached using the 90 degree adapter that came with the Cosworth intercooler pipes onto the AEM intake.  On a car that uses a mass airflow meter it is important to recirculate the compressor bypass air.  Simply dumping it can cause the engine to stall or stumble as dumping metered air overboard will make the engine run way too rich.
