Innovate intelligently paired their boost gauge with a sequential shift light, oil pressure with oil temperature, and water temperature with voltage. We decided to run our boost gauge/sequential shift light and oil pressure/temperature gauges in the gauge hood since we had previously decided these were the most critical to the engine's health. Our remaining gauges were placed on our Internal Affairs/Specialty Cars custom switch panel in the driver's peripheral vision. Even in this rather distant location, any trouble would still be brought to Chuck's attention since the MTX-D gauges allow completely customizable programming of warning lights. If any of our gauge readings went beyond our preset parameters, a series of LED lights will brightly flash to warn Chuck.

Innovate's thorough installation guides made our install a breeze. We ordered the correct sized hole saw from McMaster Carr and popped our previously purchased Innovate MTX-L and new MTX-D gauges into their respective holes. Wiring the gauges was easy, requiring only a ground, 12v switched, and a tap into our lighting circuit. Innovate provides the appropriate sending units with their gauges accompanied by plenty of insulated wire to run as “hella-tucked” as you like without having to splice in your own wires.

Innovate packages all of their gauges with two bezels and two faceplates, giving their users four different color combinations. A silver face plate can be paired with a black or silver bezel. Or, a black gauge faceplate can be paired with a silver or black bezel. We thought this was a nice touch as a change of color combinations with other gauge companies forces the user to buy a whole new gauge.

The Innovate gauges are easily programmed via their provided serial cable and LM Programmer software. Unfortunately none of our laptops, or any laptops produced in this decade, came with a serial port, so we had to purchase our own serial-to-usb adapter. According to Innovate, all of their new product will utilize USB from here on. Additionally, all of the MTX series gauges (up to 32 channels!) can be daisy chained and plugged into our Innovate LM2 Datalogger. This makes for a clean, easy to install completely modular system.
Once we had our laptop hooked up to the gauge's rear serial port, we flipped on our ignition switch and the Innovate LM Programmer software immediately recognized our MTX-L gauge. Additionally, our AFR gauge verified the communication by displaying “PRG” on its digital readout.
