Project NSX: Part 17 – ECU Master PMU16

NSX ECU Master PMU16 Printed bracketWe made 3 test pieces to validate our measurements to ensure the bracket bolts to three different locations on the factory firewall.

We sourced the OEM Honda connectors for the PMU16 to plug directly into the factory harness and programmed it to serve the same role as the original Main Rely as well as the Fan Control Module.  This made the install a true plug-n-play replacement of these old and simple control boxes.  You can see the grey connector directly below the PMU-16 and the black connector and brown plug lower and to the left of that.

ECU Master PMU16 fuel pump connectorSince we had so much flexibility with the PMU16, we built into the harness a line to directly power the OEM (or an aftermarket) fuel pump.  We doubled up two 25amp outputs to give us far more headroom of power than we would ever need for the fuel system, as well as have the ability to pulse-width-modulate (PWM) the pump.  This also enables us to remove the large factory resistor from the engine bay.

NSX Fuel Pump RelayAs part of the harness, we also repurposed one of the original Honda/Denso relays to free up two simple switched channels that we didn’t need to monitor or control.
