Project SC300 Road Racer: Part 13 – Updating for Proper Fire Safety

,

Hmm… how much tubing will we need?

The use of a tubing bender is vitally important.

The tubing bender ensures that the tubing does not get crushed or fold as it is bent. It helps to create smooth bends by supporting the tubing and pulling, in a way, as it bends. You can also somewhat bend tubing by hand, but you run the risk of kinking it which would destroy the section. Use a bender.

Or, use something like it.

If you’re super careful, you can use rounded objects to bend the tubing around. We needed a pretty big arc for one section, so a reel provided an appropriate surface.

Now, the trunk has some fire suppression.

The tubing needed a series of interesting bends to get it up and over the hump of the rear firewall, and up to a high position where it could spray down over the top of the fuel cell.

Now we needed a long run to get from the fire extinguisher tank to the front firewall where it would split again to spray on both driver and passenger as well as go into the engine bay.
