Project SC300 Road Racer: Part 13 – Updating for Proper Fire Safety

,

First, we had to hop over this hump along the transmission and driveshaft tunnel.

Then, we needed to figure out how to get from the interior side of the front firewall up to a location to spray on the passenger.

Tom is busy multi-tasking: making plans to work with his other race teams and cleaning up the end of the tubing after cutting it.

The fire system came with a few different types of tees.

This tee has an atomizer nozzle on it, so it can be used to add a spray point to a run of tubing and keep going. We mounted two of these tee-style atomizers: one in front of each cabin occupant. From each of these tees we would then go through the front firewall to an atomizer nozzle in the engine bay.

It’s important not to change the total number of nozzles that the system is designed with. Changing the nozzle count can void the certification of the system and, in some cases, can drastically affect its performance.

This is the basic layout of the fire system at the front firewall.

Instead of the tee directly in the front center of the frame having an atomizer, we needed a tee with three push-on sides. We ended up having to go with a SpA tee because OMP was on a multi-month backorder with no ETA. Pegasus Auto Racing hooked us up with the various odds and ends we needed for this project.
