Project STurdteen: Cooling, Bolt-Ons, and More

,

Howard applied some anti-seize to the turbo manifold studs before installation and pre assembled the TNX turbo to the manifold.
However, the Turbonetics TNX-20 paired with the ISR Performance manifold proved to be a challenging fit, so Howard had to try assembling the parts in the engine bay separately.
After a lot of messing around it's finally in! The turbo appears to fit in this picture, but the bottom side of the turbo compressor housing did not clear the motor mounts! Of course it couldn't have been that easy. Typical drift car.
The OEM S13 motor mounts that were already on the car were sagged and not allowing the compressor side of the turbo to sit properly without contacting the mounts. We tried clocking the position of the compressor housing every which way, and the only solution was to switch out the mounts to newer unsagged parts!
I worked some magic and was able to obtain some used Cusco solid motor mounts to aid in this dilemma.
As you can see there's a noticeable size difference between the Cusco heavy duty motor mount and the OEM style mount. There is only a small amount of rubber in the Cusco part.  Most of the Cusco mount is billet aluminum. No sagging here!  Finally we were able to get the turbo in place and bolted down.
