Project V8 RX-7: Part 7 – Bringing the E-ROD LS3 to Life (Almost)!

,

Technosquare’s Howard Watanabe machined us new aluminum plates to sandwich our Camaro fuel pump assembly and adapt it to our RX-7’s fuel tank.  The black gasket to the left is the stock RX-7 fuel tank gasket we reused.

From the top you can see how the aluminum plates sandwich the Camaro pump assembly in place.

Since the LS1 is only rated at 350hp and our new LS3 at 430hp, we weren’t comfortable with the stock LS1 pump we were using.  For the increased demands we opted to try one of Aeromotive’s new 340 Stealth fuel pumps.

Aeromotive’s Stealth pumps are direct bolt-in replacements made with 3 different inlet/outlet configurations to fit pretty much any popular application and are flow rated at 340lph at 40psi.

At the 60psi we’re running our system, we can expect flow to drop to about 285lph according to Aeromotive’s flow charts.

While we could have probably made any of the 3 Stealth pumps work fine for our application we liked the screen filter of the center inlet pump the best.  Plus it has the biggest inlet–clearly the most manly of the three pumps!

The completed fuel pump assembly installed into our RX-7’s tank.  To keep things easy, we’re reusing the RX-7’s fuel line and fuel filter.
