Project V8 RX-7: Part 7 – Bringing the E-ROD LS3 to Life (Almost)!

,

We dropped new wires for our oil pressure sender and an oil temperture sensor we may wish to install in the future.

Water Temperture

We mounted our water temperature sensor into a threaded hole we found on the water pump with a -6AN to 5/8” male/male adaptor hacked to fit our 1/8” BSP stock temperature sender.  Adaptors to fit a British Standard Pipe thread aren’t easy to come by, but AN to regular pipe thread adaptors are, and the Earl’s plumbing store is right around the corner from us!  All we did was hack off the -6 side of the adaptor and tapped the leftover piece to fit our sender.  Sure, the location of the sender would probably be more ideally placed on the outlet side of the head rather than the inlet, but then the stock gauge isn’t that accurate to begin with anyway.

We found an unused bung on our LS3’s water pump where we’ll install our water temperature sender.

In the upper left is the bung removed from the LS3 water pump, in the upper right our new Earl’s fitting prior to customization and on the bottom our stock RX-7 water temperature sender.

Step 1 to making our water temp sender adaptor: cut off the AN side of the adaptor

Step 2:  tap the hole with a 1/8″ BSP tap.
