Redline Track Events Round 4 at Willow Springs, CA 7/4/11

Newcomer from the Grand-Am circuit, driver Fred Pordad in his Porsche GT3 would round out the podium for 3rd place.  Consistent driving, a reliable naturally aspirated motor, and a little luck all played a role in his maiden outing.  A total of five Circuit Battles cars did not run a full event for one reason or another.  Three competitors in Pordad’s consolation bracket alone would DNF due to heat related issues.

Cort Wagner in the Fontana Nissan GTR was chasing electrical gremlins all weekend long which finally culminated in a limp mode during the Circuit Battles competition.  The GTR was part of the Nissan sweep of the podium in the super session with Cronin, Wagner, and Brown finishing 1-2-3.  A different variation of the Nissan VQ engine platform powered each car.  Ward’s AutoWorld, do you still want to leave this motor off your list?

Joey Scarallo in the Group A Wheels Pontiac GTO was back to defend his win at Willow Springs earlier in the year.  Contact occurred between the GTO and the LG Motorsports Corvette during one of the sessions sending the Corvette off track and damaging the GTO’s steering rack.  Without a spare rack the GTO was out of the competition.  But the incident would not end there…..

Lou Gigliotti in the LG Motorsports Corvette was disqualified for the Circuit Battles competition for making contact with the Group A wheels GTO on hot pit lane.  The contact was hard enough to move the stationary GTO and the GTO nearly hit innocent bystander Dez Ballard.  Cars should never make contact on pit lane and Lou Gigliotti was DQ’ed for the event.

Lars Wolfe in the Works EVO X fell victim to the heat.  His left front tire delaminated and whacked up the components in the wheelhouse good enough to take him out of the competition.   Thankfully it was on his cool down lap and Lars was unhurt.  The EVO was not able to continue after this minor incident.

The desert heat was causing mapping issues on the TH Motorsports Subaru STI.  When driver Andre Tsaran went WOT the car would start buggin out.  Andre Tsaran and the THM crew decided to save the car and fight another day.
