S2000 BRAKE LINES AND BRAKE FLUID

HEL BRAKE LINES AND PROJECT MU BRAKE FLUID

In preparation for our next track day upgrade, critical for safety, confidence, and faster lap times, is upgrading our brake setup.  Part 1 of this two-part series will focus on installing new HEL stainless steel braided brake lines for the S2000 and flushing our brake system with Project Mu G-Four 335 racing brake fluid. Part 2 of our follow-up article will focus on brake pads and rotors.

For anyone who has been on a track with OEM rubber lines and basic DOT 3 brake fluid, will have experienced a mushy soft pedal feel from boiling your brake fluid and expanding your rubber brake lines after several hot laps.  It will get so bad that when you come back in from your session, your brakes simply will not bite until it cools down or you prime the brakes to get it going again.  This can lead to catastrophic brake failure and lower your confidence in going full send in your next session.  The primary benefit of braided stainless steel brake lines is to provide a firm and responsive brake feel consistently over time.  Giving you the confidence you need on the street or track.  The HEL braided stainless steel brake lines can withstand the pressure from extreme braking conditions while on the track. They limit the constant expansion you would typically get under braking pressure and the risk of punctures with the OEM rubber brake lines.

The HEL braided stainless steel brake lines are covered in PVC for extra protection, easy cleanup, and are offered in a variety of colors to match your car’s unique style.  The lines come with stainless steel fittings to prevent corrosion, unlike some others that may come plated with zinc.  The HEL lines also come with the necessary mounting brackets that use the stock location mounting points. This is important to ensure the lines don’t get kinked or damaged during use.

There are typically 2 sets of brake lines on the market for the S2000. One set is intended for 2000-2005 S2000 models and another set is intended for 2006+ S2000 models.  This is due to a design change in the brake line fitting.  However, the HEL brake lines are equipped with dual seat fittings, designed to work with both concave and convex types, and are able to support all S2000 models.

The kit also includes fresh copper crush washers, banjo bolts, and additional brake line clips to help tuck the lines away if needed.  It’s also nice that they come with a lifetime warranty which adds peace of mind to your investment.

  1. How does this green Project mu brake fluid get around the DOT regs that got ATE Super Blue pulled off the market in the US? Have they just not been handed an enforcement letter yet?

    1. It’s not a US brand and people selling in the US are importing it from Japan so I think it’s kind of just flying under the radar.
