Ignoring the massive wheel spacer for just a moment, the braking duties for the rear are handled by the OEM calipers with Wilwood 13.5 inch rotors that are vented and slotted. This the same kit that Mazdatrix sells and comes complete with steel rotors, aluminum hats, new caliper brackets, and associated hardware.

The fronts are a Stoptech big brake kit that uses their 4-piston caliper and massive 14 inch rotors designed for the Mazda RX-8. This is another kit that is sold by Mazdatrix.

Something unique about Dave's race car is that it holds its street car roots very tightly. It keeps most of the door panels intact, with just enough cut out to clear the rollcage door bars. The power mirrors, windows, and even door locks all still work!

It is a very simple and minimalist door bar design, which helps keep the door panels mostly intact. As I stated before in my article on Michele's car, I don't really like this style of door bar.

However, in Dave's case, the door bar does bend with the torso of the driver. Since his car also retains the stock bars in the door, I suppose this is enough. However, I still don't like it. You can also see from this picture that nearly the entire dash is retained. The glove box is still in there as well.

The Mazdatrix RX-8 utilizes Sparco safety gear with an Evo 2 seat, 6 Point racing harness, and R345 Steering Wheel.
