Sneak Peek: Dave Lemon’s Mazdatrix RX-8

Mazdatrix RX-8
For the MotoIQ Pacific Tuner Car Challenge Tuner Over race, the Mazdatrix RX-8 used Goodyear Eagle RS slicks in 275/35/R18 in both front and rear. For wheels, the RX-8 uses XXR 521 18×10. Dave didn't tell me the offsets, but, as you saw in previous pictures and in the next two pictures, even at a +12 he still needs massive spacers!

It's not because of the brakes, it's because of the massive widebody kit that Mazdatrix and AIT Racing collaborated on. This is a modular kit, allowing each piece to be added on at later times. You can add just the front bumper, rear bumper, side skirts, or any part in between along with these very large wheel arches.

These arches are wide, as you can clearly see from this picture.

So wide, that these thick wheel spacers are required to get the wheels to fit correctly under the RX-8. Sucked up wheels suck, even on a race car!

Front aerodynamics are provided by the AIT kit, which did an excellent job at Auto Club Speedway. Rear wing adjustments were all that was required to make the car handle the big oval.

The Kognition rear wing provided all the rear downforce Dave and the RX-8 needed for the weekend. However, that's not the most important part about the wing.
