Sneak Peek: Nissan IDx Nismo

,

I am no automotive designer and know nothing on the art of it, but the front-end of the IDx Nismo says “strong” to me. To me, it says, “I’m going to chew you up and spit you out if you don’t get out of my way” kinda strong. It is a concept car, so I don’t know if those LED headlights are truly effective, but they do look cool. As this car seems to travel in trailers quite a bit, it has a metal loop on each corner to provide a tie-down location.
Yeah, the car is a concept car, but the two lower openings in the air dam could serves as places for heat exchangers or brake ducts.
Nismo IDxHere is a close-up of the corner. With the air dam angled as it is, I can see it providing some measure of downforce. The crazy looking tread pattern belongs to a Dunlop Direzza.
Nismo IDx air inletThe Dunlops are sized 225/40/19. The wheels have a center cap cover to make it appear to use a single center nut design ala high-end performance cars. But I’m guessing a standard 5 lug design is hidden under the center cap. Regardless, if the car makes it to production in some form, you can bet it will have a standard 4 or 5 lug. Some pretty 4-piston calipers are used on the front in conjunction with slotted and cross-drilled rotors. The brakes have hardly been used as you can still see the cross-hatching on the rotor. Well, I’m sure this is a very expensive concept car and driven with extreme caution.
I have this weird thing for vented hoods and big brakes. Maybe it’s because they give off an aura of serious performance.
A little flap angled upward was added to the opening which I think should help draw out more air from a functional vented hood. But this is a show car, so who knows if this hood is actually functional. It does look cool though (sorry for the pun).
