Tested! Garrett Advancing Motion Upgraded Intercooler for the EcoBoost Mustang

,

Here we have the stock Mustang EcoBoost intercooler. It is a tube and fin unit with plastic end tanks that are crimped to the aluminum intercooler core.

In comparison, the Garrett intercooler is a bar and plate design with a core 60% larger than stock.

Usually, thick cores are not as efficient as thinner cores but with the Mustang, there isn’t much room for a taller or wider core. For sure with more than twice the area, the Garrett intercooler was going to have less pressure drop, but would it have good heat shedding capacity?

The aluminum core of the Garrett Advancing Motion intercooler features an offset fin design which is supposed to result in greatly improved thermal performance over stock. The cast aluminum end tanks have been CFD optimized to maximize flow and reduce recirculation of the charged airflow.

The Garrett Advancing Motion intercooler has cast aluminum end tanks and tig welded construction. This is much stronger and blowout resistant to the OEM plastic end tanks that are crimped together. The Garrett Advancing Motion intercooler can support up to 600 horsepower!

The stock intake air temprerature sensor plugs right into the Garrett Advancing Motion intercoolerer’s driver side end tank.
