The Road to Abu Dhabi Part Two- Getting There is Half the Fun
Oh shit!  We discover that our Garrett GT28RS hits the motor mount in the wee hours of the morning.  The turbos that come with the JWT kit have cast elbows that bolt to a slightly different compressor housing that clears the mount.  When planning we thought we would be slick and do something custom here so we could have a slightly better flowing inlet even though JWT warned us about the fit issue.  Somehow we forgot about the warning until the middle of the night.  Grrr.  We ended up clearancing the mount with a die grinder.  Too bad I didn’t get a picture, we were seriously grumping by now.

Costa’s intake pipe work in progress.  Despite the long hours, intense rush to get things done and exhaustion, Costa continues to produce top class fab work!  Costa did two weeks work in two days.  In all hundreds of man hours were done in just a few days by no less than 8-9 different people.

Meanwhile Chris Marion works on the interior gutting stuff,  installing dash block off plates and fixing details, in all over 100 lbs of additional stuff was removed from the car.  Note the trick Baller Bolts burnt Ti steering wheel bolts!  I was modifying the steering for more angle about this time but didn’t get any photos of what I was doing.  I added spacers to the steering rack, shortened the steering stops and reassembled the suspension.  No photos?  Too bad, someone had to do the work and I was grumping.

Synapse Engineering supplied this awesome BOV.  It has a great amount of adjustability which came in handy during our rushed tuning session.  The engine was bucking and stalling on the dyno and we used the BOV’s adjustments, varying the pistons vacuum substrate area and spring preload to dial it all out!  Thank you Peter, I should have started to use your stuff years ago!
